Agenda
Pitch the rough storyplot Zat came up with to Audrey and Kelvin from Love Exists.
Discussed the nature of the project and the timeline projection.

The boys met up with Audrey and Kelvin over lunch at Burger King, aka KIIINGG YOSHIIII!!. The boys had a good discussion with them which gave them a clearer direction for their project. Initially the plan was thought as a promo event thing for Love Exists. However, Kelvin and Audrey didn't want that and they thought the story plot needed improvements as they felt the perception of love in it was too shallow and cliche.

Audrey asked each of the boys to write something personal about what love exists means to each of them, which will not be disclosed here. So the boys had to look deep, yes deeeeep, very deep indeed into their black tar filled hearts, with exceptions of adib and jaya, to give more meaning and purpose to the project, so it can shine on its own and not in the shadow of Love Exists.

Here's the first orginal draft,

Love Exist.

Story outline.

One guy and one girl walking aimlessly with bags over their head with question marks emblazoned over their faces meaning they are blind to the concept of love in the end finding love.

Four Stages of love in this story.

  1. Ignorance
  2. Exposure
  3. Denial
  4. Acceptance

Ignorance.

The part for ignorance will be very airy, where the two lonely souls bump onto each other frequently, but only to ignore each other’s presence and think nothing of the coincidences.

Ignorance, it will show how one can be oblivious to love. I would want to achieve a sense empathy for the audience to the characters, making them feel frustrated at how blind the characters can be after how close they were to actually finding each other.

Examples of scenes:
Stand in a crowd, failing to acknowledge the people and gestures of different people who approach them.

Sitting in a room, food is being served; a flower sits by the table, flower wilts while the food gets taken away in the end untouched.

Location: Indoor: A house.

Outdoor: Pathway outside Takashimaya Shopping Centre. If it rains: Underground walkway in orchard.

Exposure.

The part for exposure would be where they finally realize the coincidences. It will be light and revealing.

Exposure will show how the two characters meet, and how they are finally introduced to the alien concept of falling in love. It will have some dark whimsicalities when they try to comprehend.

They will finally acknowledge each other. They try to comprehend the feeling that rushes through them. They have no idea what to feel. Awkwardness ensues when they try to interact.

Examples of scenes: They stand a distance from each other on an open field, they get closer and closer.

When they come face to face, they act as if both are aliens to each other.

Location: Open field opposite Zaman’s place. If it rains???

Denial.

The part for denial would be a little violent and angry e.g. the guy refuses to acknowledge his feelings for the girl, excusing himself with the fact that he has no time for girls but in actual fact, he has confidence issues.

Denial aims to show the confusion and fear that comes with it when dealing with love or something that is alien to one.

It is now the character’s turn to feel frustration and the audience to feel scared, scared at the fate and mental state of the character. To feel sad at the character’s inability to grasp the happiness presented before him.

Examples of scenes.
He takes off his mask, only to reveal another mask; repeated many times. Location: Empty Field

Acceptance.

This will be the happiest scene of all.

Acceptance is the ending. A happy ending where both the characters realize their situation and accept it and each other. It also is the part that truly shows that love really do exist.

It aims to tell the audience that love exists, no matter for whom or for what.

Examples of scene:
They finally takes off their masks. When it drops, it forms a heart shape.

The masks that the guy/girl had earlier tried to take off but in vain, all forms a heart shape.

With their masks off, they get to see each other, and thus are smitten.

In Haji lane,
the boys began brainstorming to conceptualize a story for the film which fits audrey's and the boys' own criteria. Since now the project is seen as an independent aritst doing a work inspired by Love exists, there's more freedom for interpretation.

Drawing inspirations from stories of their own lives, the concept slowly began to take shape but it is yet incomplete. End of the day still questioning what love is.
